Interesting to compare the cases.
In Xhaka's one very large bet was placed on a yellow card in the last ten minutes.
He got one for time wasting over a free kick.
And he was cleared.
I guess you could say Paqueta's had a lot more moving parts and would be harder to write off as a coincidence.
But Xhaka did (inadvertently apparently) fulfill a more specific part in it.
But there was again apparently no paper trail, digital or otherwise connecting him.
While Paqueta has connections to the bettors, again apparently.

I said on the other thread but didn’t Xhaka have an issue against him recently and nothing come of it?

If there is a betting syndicate scam and the bets are on refereeing decisions, it stands reason it is the official that are going to be the main object of any serious investigation. Given what we see pretty much every game there is absolutely nothing outlandish about the officials being in on it.

True. I get how it *could* be perceived as an obvious betting scam, but to H&P point you have to PROVE Paqueta was actually in on it. All he has to do is deny it so long as nobody else coughs or there is no other evidence
to H&P point there is the yet more outlandish notion that the officials were in on it, not beyond possibility but again how do you prove that.

Only makes sense when you realise the officials are bent in a particular direction. Don’t buy the player being in on it - his gain is highly questionable and the risks are off the scale.

This is very easy
The Lucas Paqueta investigation started from a bet on Paquetá's yellow card in West Ham's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, on March 12 in the PL.
The player took the yellow in the 24th minute of the second half. Initial analysis showed that on that day several new accounts were created on Betway, linked with people close to Paqueta, with users depositing the maximum amount allowed.
These accounts made a married bet to increase the winnings: the authors would only receive the money if Paquetá took yellow against Villa and if striker Luiz Henrique, from Betis, received the card against Villarreal, on the same day on March 12.

Toney only better on football generally. This ones two players in different leagues both getting yellow cards and the people in Brazil doing it as a double. This is more like match fixing. This could really bite us in the arse.

The questions theta need to be answered are 1 . Did he place any bets himself 2 . Is it a normal occurrence for a tough tackling midfielder to be booked or did he get booked on purpose.
1 - Apparently NO 2 - How to you prove that? Thinking back, there were some really soft bookings in that game

Nagel It could have been Kitson but Moncur did the thumbs up, probably the all the team had a few shillings on it.

Wasn't it Kitson, not Moncur? He was the one who made the bookies ban betting on the first throw-in.

Both hard to prove. Anyone remember when Moncur kicked the ball out for a throw in from the kickoff and gave the thumbs up to Harry, when you could bet on the time of the first throw in .

shit. We fend off Man City interest and then THIS. He could be banned for most of the season, not good news, I hope there's nothing to it.

He looks guilty as fuck.
Loads of accounts opened on the same day, maximum amount deposited, some of the. With close ties to Paqueta, all bet the maximum amount in him and Enrique getting booked. Both get booked.
